Car losing 'power' under heavy cornering

Postby stargazer » Mon Aug 13, 2012 2:47 pm

That course on Sunday (Aug 12) introduced me to a new phenomenon. As I came out of a couple of tight turns, the car seemed to be losing power... not the engine, but rather putting it to the pavement. After contemplating this, thinking about a few things... I'm wondering... the Z4 (non-M)... I guess because of all the electronic controls for the daily driver (which I turn off during autox)... it has no limited slip! Is this the kind of effect that I could be feeling in it's absence... with an open rear end?

Does turning off the electronics REALLY turn them ALL the WAY OFF... or just most of the way off (like a Mercedes does)?

One of the first mods I did my 135i was replace the e-diff with a Quaife LSD. It made the car light years better, in my opinion it is the best mod you can do and its too bad BMW didn't have it that way to begin with!

I don't think it's going to be a short term project... but as long as the wife wants her -BMW- convertible (I'd happily trade it for an S2000), I guess I'll probably have to address this somewhere down the line (looks like the Quaife LSD is the most common choice)... that, or find myself an M we can upgrade to.

My Z4 is an '04... don't think eDiff came around until later in the decade... so I don't even have the 'benefit' of that.
